America’s First Daughter

By Stephanie Dray and Lauren Kamoie

Here is the story of Thomas Jefferson’s daughter, Patsy. Everyone knows the story of Jefferson as a Founding Father and Jefferson and Sally Hemmings and even Jefferson and UVA and Monticello, but it was interesting to read about his family life with his daughters and how Patsy, in particular, was so integral to his life and legacy. In many ways her life was severely restricted due to the norms of the times, yet in other ways, she broke free of many of those very limitations to forge an independent, confident path. Although historical fiction, it was evidently thoroughly and exhaustively researched and any quotes are from the vast collection of the Jefferson family written correspondence so that leant credibility to the conversations depicted in the book.
