The Hawthornes, residents of affluent Marin County, have a daughter applying for college, to Harvard no less and riding along for their fictional yet exceptionally accurate journey is a good exercise for anyone with this experience hovering anywhere in their lives! Having just endured my second round of college applications, I have much I can comment on about this process, but I invite you to read this instead. It provides a pretty good picture of the potential insanity of the process if you allow yourself to get sucked into it, but it also provides some fairly sensible analysis of how and why to avoid that very insanity. My advice, don’t drink the kool-aid!
