The Nightingale

By Kristin Hannah

Here we have World War II occupied France and two sisters who approach and cope with the misery and horror of that time in very different ways. They are both strong, competent, young women who show incredible bravery in the face of genuine fear and terror, but they have varied methods of attacking the situation with their opposite personalities, and although they face the same enemy, they each have different responsibilities and life situations, so their battles are not the same. Neither sister is better than the other and both come to realize that the approach of the other has its merits and reasons. They clash often as their ways of surviving their hellish reality often conflict with each other but they always realize their bond as sisters.

I write short, pithy, book recommendations for family and friends. My best life is comprised of my husband, my boys, my books, a quiet place, a comfortable chair, a cocktail on my side table, and a Vizsla in my lap.
