This is Where I Leave You

By Jonathan Tropper

Turns out, this was made into a movie starring Tina Fey. Enough said. Dad dies and momma calls her chicks home to come sit shiva for him, even though they haven’t been practicing Jews for ages. It is drama and humor about the chaos that is family. As I wrote in my notes, “a classic, predictable formula but that is because it works”. The amount of drama for one family stretches credulity but that is sometimes the point of books…a little hyperbole never hurt anyone. Like the exaggerated fashions on the runway that are not really meant to be worn on a city street, often books take a normal sized family drama and stretch it for the benefit of good reading and entertainment.

I write short, pithy, book recommendations for family and friends. My best life is comprised of my husband, my boys, my books, a quiet place, a comfortable chair, a cocktail on my side table, and a Vizsla in my lap.
