The Fault in Our Stars

By John Green

Hazel and Augustus meet in a support group for teens with cancer. Brace yourselves. Whether you formally join a group or not, being directly affected by cancer, especially youth cancer, automatically puts you in an awful club that no one ever wants to be in but once there, you do immediately have a bond with the other members. John Green beautifully captures that bond and the unique love that two young kids in such a situation could develop. They show wisdom and maturity beyond their years at some points and at others are very average, silly teens. Their life circumstances create a setting for conversations and experiences they share that would never enter the world of teens not fighting for their lives. It is excruciatingly sad but I strongly recommend it.
