Daughter of Fortune

By Isabel Allende

For a California history nut like myself, this was great. The story begins in Chile and takes you to Gold Rush California. At first glance it is a romantic tale of chasing your lost, true love but upon further examination, the question it left me with is this....at what point does one's behavior cross over from being hopelessly romantic, searching for your one true love to being just selfish, callous and ungrateful for all that others have done for you? Read and you will understand the question.

I write short, pithy, book recommendations for family and friends. My best life is comprised of my husband, my boys, my books, a quiet place, a comfortable chair, a cocktail on my side table, and a Vizsla in my lap.
