Where the Crawdads Sing

By Delia Owens

Wonderful! A young girl is abandoned in the marshlands of coastal North Carolina in the 1950s. The minimal learning about her natural surroundings provided by various family members before they all failed her allows her survival. Because her skills with nature are a key element to her life, nature itself is a vital character in the story. Jumpin’ and Mabel are simply lovely people whose company I greatly enjoyed. You have heard me say in the past how much I appreciate books that transport me to another place and this one does that. I was inside her little shack, walking the marshlands, hearing the birds and seeing the sunsets. It is a beautifully written period piece.

I write short, pithy, book recommendations for family and friends. My best life is comprised of my husband, my boys, my books, a quiet place, a comfortable chair, a cocktail on my side table, and a Vizsla in my lap.
