Cutting For Stone

By Abraham Verghese

This is one of those books I picked up and started but put aside because it did not grab me at first. Later though, my friend, Mary Ann, said she too started it and put it down but then tried again and found it to be an excellent book. With her encouragement, I tried again and am so glad I did. This is not only beautifully written but tells a fascinating, compelling story of twin brothers born in Addis Ababa. I especially enjoy when a book is so well written I feel like I spent several days where it took place. The story has twists and turns and the characters are unforgettable. I mention characters I despised in a few other books, well in this book I met amazing characters I wish I could know in real life, Matron, Ghosh, Hema....a wonderful book.
