We Run the Tides

By Vendela Vida

Seriously, I am not searching for books set in and around San Francisco! But, here is another and this one really hit home being set at a “fictional” private, all-girls school (Burke’s School) in the Sea Cliff neighborhood of the city during the 1980s. It seems the ridiculous narcissism of high school girls is a timeless and universal topic. These girls bounce around the city and seemingly out of boredom one morning make up a story that leads to serious investigations and drama. It gets a little far-fetched but the author pulls it back from the brink of complete absurdity so it winds up a solid story about teen girls in 1980’s San Francisco. They ride the 1 California, hang out at Baker and China beaches, the Marina, the Haight, even head over to West Portal.

I write short, pithy, book recommendations for family and friends. My best life is comprised of my husband, my boys, my books, a quiet place, a comfortable chair, a cocktail on my side table, and a Vizsla in my lap.
